Delaware does not have many waterparks. That is the honest starting point. The state is small, the beach season is short, and most of the coast is given over to sand and boardwalk. So when families search for the best waterpark in Delaware, the real question underneath it is usually simpler: where can we take the kids for a few hours that is not another day of hauling chairs onto the sand.

Thunder Lagoon Waterpark is our answer to that, and we have been giving it for years on Route 1 in Fenwick Island. We are the only waterpark in Fenwick Island, and one of only two in the greater Ocean City area. This guide covers what is actually here, what it costs in 2026, and how to plan a day that works.

What is actually at Thunder Lagoon

Six water slides, a 400-foot lazy river, a tipping Viking ship, an activity pool, and an 800 square foot kiddie pool. That is the whole park. We are not going to pretend it is bigger than it is, because the size is part of the point.

A park this size means you can see your kids. Parents who have spent a day at a giant regional park know the feeling of losing track of a nine year old for twenty minutes. That does not really happen here. You can sit at the activity pool and watch the slide exit at the same time.

The slides

Six of them, including the Black Hole and the Twister doubles. The doubles are the ones families tend to remember, because a parent and a kid can ride together, which matters a lot when a seven year old is deciding whether they are brave enough.

The 400-foot lazy river

This is the part most parents are actually here for. Four hundred feet of slow water where nobody needs anything from you for a few minutes. Kids float, adults float, and the day resets.

The tipping Viking ship

A Viking ship sits above the activity pool slowly filling with water until it dumps 250 gallons on whoever is standing underneath. Kids position themselves under it on purpose. It is the single most photographed thing in the park.

For the smallest kids

An 800 square foot kiddie pool, separate from the main action, with water shallow enough for toddlers. If you have a two year old and a ten year old, this is the setup that makes the day possible instead of exhausting.

2026 prices

We sell passes by time rather than by day, which is unusual and worth explaining. A waterpark day with young kids is often two good hours, not eight. Charging a full-day price for that never sat right with us. So you buy 2 hours, and if the kids are still going strong you add 2 more at the window. You never pre-pay for time you do not use.

The waterpark runs daily from 10am to 6pm during the summer season. Weather can close us, so if the sky looks bad, call ahead at (302) 539-4027 before you drive over.

Parking is free and on site. That is worth more than it sounds if you have ever paid for parking in Ocean City in the middle of July.

How this fits into a whole day

The waterpark closes at 6pm, but the rest of what we do stays open much later. Viking Golf runs until 11:30pm and Viking Go-Karts runs until 11:30pm as well. So the shape of a normal day here is: waterpark in the morning, food in the afternoon, mini golf or go-karts after dinner when it finally cools down.

Hungry Viking handles the food, and it is boardwalk food done properly: funnel cakes, fried Oreos, burgers, fries, pizza, hot dogs, and chicken tenders. We serve Coca-Cola products. For ice cream, Hershey's Island Creamery is right next door. They are a separate business, but they are about thirty steps away and their Funnel Cake Sundae has its own following.

Is it the best waterpark in Delaware?

Depends what you want. If you are looking for a huge regional park with thirty attractions and a wave pool, that is not us, and we would rather tell you now than have you drive here disappointed.

What we are is the waterpark that works for a family with a range of ages, that you can do in two hours without committing your whole day, that has free parking, and that sits five minutes from Bethany and fifteen from Ocean City. For a lot of families on this stretch of coast, that is the version of best that actually matters.

What to bring, and what to leave

A waterpark day goes badly for boring reasons. Here is what actually matters:

• Towels. More than you think. One per person is optimistic once the lazy river is involved.
• Water shoes. Concrete gets hot in July. This is the single most common regret we hear.
• Sunscreen, applied before you arrive. Putting it on at the gate means it has not absorbed before the first slide washes it off. Do it 20 minutes early.
• A change of clothes. Nobody enjoys the drive home in a wet swimsuit.
• Cash or card for food. Hungry Viking is right there and someone will want a funnel cake.

Leave the giant inflatables and the cooler-sized speakers at the rental. It is a compact park and there is nowhere to put them.

The 42 inch line, explained

Our children's rate is for kids under 42 inches. At 42 inches and above, the adult rate applies. That is a $16 swing per child on a 2-hour pass, which is enough to matter.

Measure at home before you come. Every summer we have a conversation at the window with a parent who assumed their eight year old counted as a child, and it is nobody's favourite moment. Knowing in advance just makes the day smoother.

Who this park is not for

Being straight about it, because a bad fit helps nobody. If your family wants a wave pool, thirty attractions, and a full eight-hour day, we are not that and you will feel it. Jolly Roger in Ocean City is the bigger park and it is six miles south.

If you want a couple of good hours, free parking, a park small enough to keep eyes on your kids, and slides that a nervous seven year old will actually go down because a parent can ride with them, that is exactly what we built.
